Hoya Geography Museum is a private, geography-themed museum specializing in geography, located in Mureung-ri, Mureungdowon-myeon. It was established with the personal funds of Hoya Yang Jae-ryong, who devoted his life to geography education. Hoya Geography Museum consists primarily of a permanent exhibition hall and the Geotopia Hall. The permanent exhibition hall is divided between the first and second floors of the main building and contains five exhibition areas: What Is Geography?, Yeongwol’s Mureungdowon Seen Through Geography, The Wider World Within Geography, The World Beneath the Earth/Audiovisual Room, and the Special Exhibition Room. The special exhibition room on the first floor of the Geotopia Hall displays all four sides of an actual rubbing of the inscription on the Stele of King Gwanggaeto the Great, as well as the original Ilcheonghangun-yongjeongdo, which proves that Dokdo is Korean territory. In the experiential learning room and special exhibition room on the second floor of the Geotopia Hall, visitors can view the special exhibition “Korean Territory, Dokdo Map Special Exhibition,” which is proven by maps, and attend special lectures on Dokdo. Various experiential activities related to love for Dokdo and King Danjong are also offered.
