Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Address: 13-39, Dowonunhak-ro, Mureungdowon-myeon, Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon State

The Rock-carved Seated Buddha, designated as a Gangwon State Tangible Cultural Heritage, is a high-relief rock-carved image engraved on a large boulder next to Yoseonjeong, and stands 3.5 m high. It is presumed to have been created by a local artisan during the Goryeo period, and is highly valuable and meaningful as a rare rock-carved image in Gangwon State. The Mureung-ri Rock-carved Seated Buddha is highly valuable in itself, and visitors can enjoy the serene beauty of the Buddha statue. In addition, it is located in a place offering a scenic view of Yeongwol's beautiful valley, making it a good spot for appreciating the landscape. Right next to the Rock-carved Seated Buddha is Yoseonjeong, which makes it easy to appreciate both the scenery and the rock-carved Buddha. If you go down the path below it, you can encounter Yoseonam, filled with uniquely shaped rocks, and the refreshing river water.
