Why travelers stop here
Yeongwol Sulbit Village is a village renowned for its pristine natural environment, with clear, clean water and air. In the past, it was named Jucheon (meaning “Liquor Spring”) because it was said to have a spring from which liquor flowed. In 2003, it was selected as an Informatization Village designated by the Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs. The village actively operated by selling local specialties online and running various experiential programs and accommodations, receiving the Grand Prize and an Encouragement Award in the Informatization Village management evaluations in 2013 and 2015, respectively. After reorganizing the project at the end of 2023, it continues its activities with a focus on simplified experiential programs and agricultural product sales through its online shopping mall, Nanumdeuri Farm. Experiential programs include pressed-flower crafts, apple picking, and making wood-fired pizza, and applications can be made by phone inquiry. Representative products of Sulbit Village include apples that are sweeter and more flavorful than those from other regions due to Yeongwol’s large daily temperature range; firm, crisp deodeok with a high iron content, grown in limestone areas at elevations of 500 meters or higher; and premium Korean beef sets known for their outstanding texture. In particular, deodeok liquor, produced mainly by the Deodeok Agricultural Cooperative Corporation, is famous. In addition, a variety of agricultural products are available, including chili peppers, corn, potatoes, yellow-fleshed Yeongwol highland clean pickled cabbage, and tomatoes and cucumbers produced in advanced greenhouses. All products can be ordered online through the website, making it convenient to enjoy agricultural products from pristine Gangwon State.
