Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Palseokjeong is a scenic site located by the waterside in front of Pyeongchon-ri, Bongpyeong-myeon. Here, eight large rocks are situated, forming a spectacular view in harmony with the surrounding scenery. The name Palseokjeong refers to these eight rocks. When Yang Sa-eon served as the governor of Gangneung, he toured the Gangneung area and arrived at this place, Pyeongchon-ri, Bongpyeong. Captivated by the natural beauty, he forgot his official duties and freely roamed like an immortal for eight days, enjoying the scenery. He then had a pavilion named Pailgyeong built and visited three times a year to refine his poetic inspiration. Upon visiting, you can see writings inscribed around the rocks.
