Cheoram Coal Mining History Village

강원특별자치도 태백시 동태백로 406 (철암동)

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Cheoram Coal Mining History Village is a living history museum that preserves the old shops of a former coal-mining town as they were. The residential and commercial buildings stretching along the Cheoramcheon Stream retain the appearance of a coal-mining town from the 1980s. Although they look like closed shops from the outside, exhibition spaces showcasing the history of coal mining unfold inside the buildings. Visitors can explore the history of the fading coal industry and the daily lives of the miners in their original form. The village is also characterized by kkachibal buildings, which were expanded by installing supports on the streambed when residential space was scarce. They were given this name because the building supports resemble brackets.
