The Danoje Training Center was established to support the transmission activities of Gangneung Danoje, a National Intangible Cultural Heritage that was selected as a UNESCO “Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity” on November 25, 2005. It also serves as a place where the general public can regularly view Danoje events, participate in traditional culture classes, and enjoy a space for civic culture. The site covers 6,408㎡, with a total floor area of 2,163㎡. The main building has one basement level and two above-ground floors, while the performance building has one basement level, two above-ground floors, and 453 seats. The main building contains the Gangneung Danoje promotional exhibition room, training classrooms, the Gangneung Danoje Committee, and the Gangneung Danoje Preservation Society. The performance building can host planned performances and rental performances. Educational programs include Traditional Culture Classes and a Gangneung Danoje History Tour. The Traditional Culture Classes are offered to Gangneung citizens in eight subjects: samulnori, janggu, piri, taepyeongso, Gwanno Mask Dance, modeumbuk, Korean dance, Gangneung nongak, and folk songs. The Gangneung Danoje History Tour is an on-site educational program in which participants visit the cultural heritage sites of Gangneung Danoje and explore its cultural significance through explanations provided at the sites.
