Yeongwol African Art Museum

The Yeongwol African Art Museum permanently exhibits cultural artifacts created in connection with the lives, rituals, beliefs, and festivals of various African tribes, including sculptures, paintings, household implements, and ornaments, as well as works of modern art. To promote a broad understanding of Africa’s diverse cultures, the museum displays, on a semi-permanent basis, an exhibition of African culture presented by African embassies in Korea. It also holds special exhibitions planned for particular occasions or tailored to regional characteristics, thereby complementing the museum’s functions. The Yeongwol African Art Museum presents traditional sculptures, including masks and figures that express the conceptual worlds of African people, allowing visitors to discover their artistic talent. The exhibitions also explore the influence and significance of African art’s subject matter, production techniques, and artistic characteristics on modern art.
