The Gangwon Forest Museum is located within the Gangwon Provincial Arboretum, the first public arboretum in Korea. Operated by Gangwon State as a public arboretum, it opened in 1999 to provide an urban forest recreation and nature-learning space. It has approximately 30 themed gardens, more than 1,800 plant species, and 20 plant species designated as endangered by the Ministry of Environment. A variety of flowers bloom and fade with the seasons, offering distinctive scenery and enjoyment. The Gangwon Forest Museum was established in connection with the Gangwon Provincial Arboretum to create a new forest-culture space, providing urban forest recreation and nature-learning opportunities befitting the status of the nation’s foremost forest province and helping people perceive forests as more familiar spaces. The Forest Museum consists of five exhibition rooms (Exhibition Rooms 1–4 and a special exhibition room), a 3D theater, and a wood-culture playground. It features taxidermied wild animals, fossils, insects, tree specimens, and forest-related materials, allowing visitors to learn about the history and future development of forests. Through exhibitions utilizing these resources, it provides a variety of forest-culture services. Filled with many things to see and enjoy and rich in educational content, it is a good place to visit with children.
