Why travelers stop here
Deokuri Daechon Village is a rural village located within the Deokuri Experience Village in Jeongseon-eup, Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province. Although Deokuri has rugged mountains and limited farmland, it boasts beautiful mountain and water scenery, with many towering layered cliffs and magnificent stone peaks over 100 meters high, making it home to scenic sites among the 12 Scenic Views of Donggye. In particular, Chwijeokbong Peak is said to be the place where the crown prince of King Yeonsangun came after being deposed, received royal poison, and was executed. It is said to have been named Chwijeokbong because the crown prince survived on potatoes and played the flute here at the time of his deposition. Oksunbong Peak, Banseonjeong Pavilion, Guunbyeong Cliff, and the Eocheon Stream winding down around the village come together to create beautiful scenery. Famous as the setting for television programs, Daechon Village offers walking courses passing by Oksunbong Peak, Jewoldae, Guunbyeong Cliff, Banseonjeong Pavilion, and Samhapsu. It is a stump-like village where visitors can escape their stifling and complicated daily lives, stay for a while, recharge, and continue on their way.
