The Eumnamu tree in Gungchon-ri has been designated and protected as a Natural Monument since 1989 because, in addition to its value as a piece of folk heritage that has grown under the care and attention of ancestors over many years, it is also highly valuable as a biological resource, being one of the largest and oldest eumnamu trees in Korea.
