Located in Yongdae-ri, Buk-myeon, Inje-gun, Gangwon State, the Baekgol Battalion War Memorial was erected to honor the 640 members of the Baekgol Battalion, established as Korea’s first guerrilla unit, who contributed to friendly operations by disrupting the enemy in Seoraksan, and to pray for the souls of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives and died in battle. At the entrance where the Baekgol Battalion War Memorial stands, there is not only the memorial itself but also a statement explaining the purpose of its construction: to commemorate the noble spirit of sacrifice and distinguished achievements of the Baekgol Battalion soldiers, attracting visitors’ attention. In addition, on the left are the Formation Monument erected by the Baekgol Battalion Memorial Association and the Baekgol Battalion Memorial Monument for Unknown Soldiers, erected in 2003 to mark the 52nd anniversary of the Baekgol Battalion’s participation in the war and return from battle.
