Galcheon Mineral Spring

The mineral water of Galcheon Mineral Spring rises from a rock in the valley of Guryongnyeong, about 11 km west of Galcheon-ri, Yangyang-gun. It contains iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, and other elements. In particular, it has a high iron content and is said to be good for gastrointestinal disorders and anemia, as well as for preventing tooth decay. It is similar to Osaek Mineral Spring and has long been renowned, along with Bangadari Mineral Spring in Jinbu. Due to its iron content, it may have a strong metallic taste. The place name Galcheon is said to have originated from the fact that villagers ate arrowroot instead of grain during times of spring famine. The valley was so remote that it was not known to people, even though mountain ginseng diggers were said to drink this mineral water on their way to dig for wild ginseng. The Galcheon Mineral Spring is said to have become known after National Route 56 was opened.
