Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Suha Valley is a valley located in Mitan-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province. Water flowing down from Cheongoksan Mountain (Yukbaekmajigi), which stands at an elevation of 1,255 m, passes through the town center of Mitan-myeon and then flows through Suha Valley, a roughly 8-km stretch of oddly shaped rocks and gorges, just before joining the Donggang River. This is the starting point for Donggang rafting. About 5 km east of here, following the riverside on foot, is Munhui Village, one of Korea's representative remote villages. The valley also became well known as the Donggang River grew into a mecca for rafting. Operated as a village-managed recreational area, Suha Valley has beautiful natural scenery and is also a good place for fishing in its first-class waterway, where various kinds of freshwater fish inhabit. It extends across three ri, from Hantan-ri through Gihwa-ri to Maha-ri in Mitan-myeon. Baengnyong Cave is nearby, so visiting both places together is recommended. Visitors can enjoy rafting with their families, and the wide gravel banks also make it a good place for camping.
