Destination briefing
Why travelers stop here
The Korea Otter Research Center is an organization that conducts research, breeding, and restoration projects for otters, an indicator species of aquatic ecosystems, and provides environmental education for visitors. The otters that come here are mainly those that have been injured or are young otters separated from their mothers. The enclosures where wild otters are raised resemble their natural environment. Some otters have been raised here since they were young, and because they are familiar with people, they readily eat food when it is offered to them, displaying their adorable nature. Highlighting the image of clean Hwacheon, the center conducts ecological and environmental education as a carbon-neutral, pollution-free area. It also provides the public with a place for experiences and lifelong education that satisfies their desire to understand natural ecosystems, as well as a place for rest.
