In the "Newly Augmented Survey of the Geography of the Eastern Kingdom" (Sinjeung Dongguk Yeoji Seungnam), under the entries for ancient sites and fortress sites of Hanseong-hyeon, it is clearly recorded as "Muyangseong Fortress: located 12 li south of the prefecture, built of stone."
