Ipado Hongam

Ipado Hongam is a cliff on the southern coast of Ipado Island and one of the Eight Scenic Views of Hwaseong. Ipado is an island located north of Gukhwa Island in the West Sea, west of Ujeong-eup. The island's name originates from the meaning 'to greet the waves while standing.' It is a small island with a total area of 0.44㎢, located 70km from Seoul, 40km from Incheon, and 50km from Suwon in a straight line. Most of the island consists of gentle hills under 50m in elevation, forming a charming linear shape. Except for the gentle east-west ridge in the center and the sandy and pebble beaches along the coast, over 30% of the island is steep slopes, with the north and south coasts forming cliffs. On the southern coast, Hongam, a red rocky peak rising with an air of ancient mystery, is considered one of the Eight Scenic Views of Hwaseong, as it harmonizes with naturally growing sea pines and seabirds like gulls among the rock walls, creating a picturesque landscape. To reach Hongam, you can follow the hiking trail from the lighthouse, or check the tide to walk along the coastal path. Ipado has clean seawater, and along with nearby Gukhwa Island to the south, it is crowded with vacationers and anglers in summer.
