Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Nosansa Shrine Site is a shrine enshrining the portraits and mortuary tablets of Zhu Xi, Song Si-yeol, and Hwaseo Yi Hang-ro. Following Yi Hang-ro's lifelong reverence for Zhu Xi and Song Si-yeol, he painted their portraits and enshrined them, placing Zhu Xi as the main tablet with Song Si-yeol and Hwaseo to the east and west. Originally covering an area of 330m² (about 100 pyeong), the shrine was burned down during the Korean War. Afterwards, in 1950, Confucian scholars built a shrine at its current location to commemorate Hwaseo and inherit his Neo-Confucian spirit, holding an annual memorial service on September 15.
