Hwaseong Gasiri Village

경기도 화성시 남양읍 남양서로348번길 9

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Gasiri Village boasts a pollution-free, clean environment as it was designated as a development restriction zone for 30 years, with no sources of contamination such as factories or livestock sheds around the village. The name Gasiri is a compound of 'gasi' from the thorny tree (Kalopanax septemlobus), believed to ward off bad luck and evil spirits, and 'siri' (匙理), derived from the village's spoon-like shape. At the village entrance, there is a over 300-year-old Kalopanax tree planted by ancestors, protecting the village. Visitors can experience traditional farming in the well-preserved natural environment, evoking nostalgia, and there are organic agricultural products such as rice and sun-dried red peppers harvested from the vast farmland created by reclamation projects. The village is also conveniently located near various tourist attractions and leisure facilities, offering diverse enjoyment.
