A Bicycle Trip to Ganghwa DMZ on the Wind of Peace

On Ganghwa-gun's Gyodong Island, there is a Peace Bicycle Path extending approximately 30 km. This is a loop course that passes along coastal barbed wire roads and farm roads, passes by Manghyangdae where the northern landscape is visible, goes through unpaved roads and coastal lake roads, and returns to the starting point. You can use your own bicycle, or you can rent one at Gyodong Jebijip, the tourist information center in Gyodong-myeon. Daeryong Market near Gyodong Jebijip is also worth a visit. This market was established after the Korean War when refugees settled here. The scenery of the old traditional market and the stylish shops that have recently settled are packed tightly in the narrow market alleys. After riding a bicycle for about an hour, you will arrive at Manghyangdae, located on Bammeori Mountain in northern Gyodong Island. The northern scenery seen through the telescope installed at Manghyangdae is so close it feels within reach. On the way out after touring Gyodong Island, it is good to stop by Cafe Joyang Bangjik in Ganghwa-eup for a cup of coffee to finish the trip.
