Yongjinjin Fortress

인천광역시 강화군 선원면 연리

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Jin refers to an armed walled city where soldiers stayed. Yongjinjin was under the administration of the Byeongmamanho (a military officer) assigned to each garrison during the Joseon Dynasty, and it is said that 101 troops were stationed here. There were facilities including 4 cannon emplacements and 26 gun emplacements, but most of the stone walls no longer remain. However, two gateways with rainbow-shaped tops survived, and in 1999, a pavilion was newly restored above them. It was built in the 7th year of King Hyojong of Joseon (1656) and is said to have managed three signal mounds: Garisandongdae, Jwagangdongdae, and Yongdangdongdae.
